Happy Mother's Day!
Yes, we know that it’s not yet Mother’s Day; Afterall, many of us just took down the Christmas tree less than two weeks ago and flooded social media with reactions when stores started adding Valentine’s Day gifts to their shelves. The reality is – it’s getting earlier and earlier every single year! In our local area, Sam’s Club had their Halloween displays for just a couple of weeks before moving them to a less obvious area to make room for everything Christmas. That was in August!
Did you know that long-lead media, such as O, The Oprah Magazine, close out their holiday gift guides in the early parts of summer? Short-lead media, including blogs, are now working on their holiday gift guide deadlines in September and October. What does this mean for a brand that offers a product suitable for gift guides? It means that your product must be ready to go, even if it’s a limited-edition seasonal item. Get that product up on your site, up on Amazon.com and have images and media samples available; if you don’t, your competitor most definitely will and they’ll get the attention of long and short lead media!
Speaking of Amazon.com, many of our media contacts can only work with brands that have their products available on Amazon. It’s not that they don’t love us or want to work with us, they simply cannot work with a brand that doesn’t sell on a major retailer’s website – it comes from their boss who signs their checks so who are we to argue?
According to the National Retail Federation, 2019 was expected to yield the highest consumer spending for Mother’s Day to date with close to a spend of $25 billion. The website went even further to break down the expected total spending for a wide variety of gifts from greeting cards to electronics and even housewares and gardening tools. Surprisingly, 1.1 billion was expected to have been spent on houseware and gardening tools in 2019.
If you have a product that a mother would love (or just need), now is time to take action before it’s too late! Last year, Forbes.com, Refinery29.com, harpersbazaar.com, bloomberg.com, esquire.com, mashable.com, and CNN.com ALL offered Mother’s Day Gift for their readers (just to name a few). CNN.com alone has a UVPM of 121 million – that’s the potential for 121 million people to see your product! Not too shabby!
The question is: Are you ready? Do you have your ducks in a row? If so, we’re here to help! Get in touch with us today so we may help you reach over 121 million potential buyers!
